For almost all applications we are using an oil-based product that is best suited for each customer's deck by color and brand. We also use a water based solid stain if the customer decides on a solid color for their stain.
No, all the stains we use are both a stain and sealant in one. Once we have applied the stain it is also sealed.
This is based on moisture in the wood. We like to see moisture under 7%. For Cedar and other softer woods this usually happens within 3-6 months. With treated pine we recommend waiting a full year to stain due to the high amount of chemical put into the wood.
